Alhamdulillah, many of us will be sustained through Ramadan with nourishing sahur and iftar meals. But across Lebanon, those who can’t afford food will go hungry well beyond iftar time. In refugee camps (like the Palestinian and Syrian camps) and impoverished communities (like in the North), there are families who urgently need us to send them food in the holy month.

The Prophet prescribed the Zakat al-Fitr as a purification of the fasting person from empty and obscene talk and as food for the poor. If anyone pays it before the prayer (of Eid), it will be accepted as Zakat.
Muslims past the age of puberty and are of sound mind are eligible to pay Zakat as long as they meet the required Nisab threshold.
